Fast digital slide viewing at the Veldhuizen Cytology Course

Last week Slide Score supported the Veldhuizen cytology course, a two day in-person course attended by 100 pathologists and technicians. This year was focused on head and neck cancers. Five years ago, Slide Score helped transition the course from glass slides to a fully digital format. Since then we try to improve the experience every year.

For 2025, we provided not only Slide Score, our web-based whole slide viewer, but also high-performance Wi-Fi network equipment and a dedicated local server. This way we could ensure everyone has perfect digital slide viewing experience and we did not have to worry about unreliable hotel WiFi or unstable internet connection. Each of the 100 participants had an iPad, allowing them to smoothly explore hundreds of whole slide images hosted locally on Slide Score.

We strive to always provide the best digital pathology viewing experience. One of our key performance metrics is slide rendering speed: how long it takes to draw the slide pixels when zooming or panning across a slide. Our goal is to keep this time under 100 milliseconds (0.1s) 90% of the time. During this year’s course, performance exceeded expectations: 90% of interactions took less than 1 millisecond, even with 100 participants browsing slides at the same time.

Whether you’re organizing an in-person pathology course, a digital pathology workshop, or an online training, get in touch and Slide Score can help you deliver a smooth, and interactive learning experience.
